HIGH-VOLTAGE
Electronics, Alternative Rock & Digital Technology: In today's supercharged world these influences mix together for a blast of high-voltage-look-at-me colors. Expect to see these colors splashed everywhere from cars to appliances to upholstery. It's consumerism as self-expression, giving the bold and not so bold an equal playing field. Need a grounding "step down" from that fast-paced pulse? To keep 2013's bold colors livable bring in black, white or gray.
VINTAGE MOXIE
Feeling pretty in a demure mid-century way? Nostalgic trends will still express who you are in 2013 when you mix in a new, modern edge. The retro glam of pearls, florals, and classic silhouettes gets tempered by fun and funky accents as well as attitude. Look for this year's pastels to be a little bolder--with semi-precious gem tones like citrine, peridot and amethyst, set off by crisp neutrals.
HONED VITALITY
Time and Nature work hand-in-hand, to create a softened beauty that is restful and comforting. You can experience this wonder in the layered hues of mineral deposits, sea-buffed stones or the weathered shutters of a rustic farmhouse. The colors are chalky and earthy, the materials raw and organic. Such accents send the message that "handmade quality" is timeless, unique and priceless, while good "homemaking remains a valued skill rather than a chore."
MIDNIGHT MYSTERY
Dark Shadows are reborn: We live in an age of full disclosure, with scientific exploration probing everything from mysterious Mars to genetic mapping. Is it any wonder our "dark side" can be an irresistibly strong draw, with its murky depths and shadows? The colors are moody, the vibe is masculine and the aesthetic is both Victorian and futuristic. Visible mechanicals intrigue us, while theatrical effects, eerie collections and menswear-inspired fabrics like tweed and houndstooth evoke Sherlock Holmes and Prohibition-era speakeasies.
